Realm of Permenia

The Corexis Isles

Excerpt from The Explorer's Handbook or, My Thrilling Travels through the Territories of the Termian Tribes by Agnet Shishakov

The Corexis Isles are a largely unexplored cluster of islands in the southern Blood Sea (so named due to its delightful, ruby hue witnessed in its western reaches). These sweltering lands exhibit the most delicious fruit, a vast array of diverse fish (all good to eat and blissful to the palette!) and a mystery that I, Agnet Kastroyan Viligy Shishakov, resolved to uncover. A balmy evening welcomed my initial landing on the beaches of Corexia Prima, the setting sun glinting off the long, serrated leaves of the topiary which was not unlike the palm trees seen in the Hawan isles. It was not till the third day, when we had set up our residence near the white cliffs of Kyrelia, that we finally met the fierce locals. Initially, our talks went rather well, we traded food and they introduced us to some of the local landmarks and territories (all represented in the attached map) even going so far as to presenting myself (the clear authority figure in our little party) with a funny little pet called by the locals a "Lemak". Over the next few weeks we explored the looming caverns of Krat and hunted the terrifying Ugmalok (needless to say felled by the hand of none other than yours truly) with our enthusiastic, albino guides cheering us on.

Then, all of a sudden, disaster struck.

Their tribe leader's son (by the name of Urash, or Urush - I can't quite recall) fell ill and rapidly deteriorated, not even their reclusive witch-healers could revive his poor, ashen body. Soon after, in quick succession fell the chief of guard, three members of their council and a dozen or so more tribespeople. Quite surprisingly, it seemed the locals blamed us for this! As such, we hastily departed, managing to get most of our expedition back on-board the Sparrow (one or two of the deck-hands became pincushions for some mean looking poison tipped arrows, but thankfully the cook and captain were all well).

As a warning to fellow travelers I say this - come well prepared with a strong military contingent - the locals are most rude, vicious and attack innocent explorer's without a thought. The overgrown wildlife is mostly predatory (though delicious!) with tigers and large lizard like things growing to truly terrifying proportions. Finally, be wary of stray magic which lingers on the peaks and settles in valleys of this land, though it appears tropical and restful here, there are places which better resemble the wastes of Shyish or gloomy forests of Ulgu - something quite unusual connects this place to the rest of the realms and I, Agnet Shishakov, will one day unveil it all!
